George Merrill, Sr.

George Otto Merrill Sr passed to glory August 13,2018 after his battle with pancreatic cancer in Mobile, AL. George was born in Northeast Mississippi April 21, 1942 to Paul Otto Merrill and Esther Spears Merrill. He was preceded in death by siblings Mattie Mae, Pauline, Kareen, Ruth McCoy, Maxine McCoy, Bob Merrill and is survived by Genenda Lambert.
George worked hard all his life from taking care of chickens on the farm before school at Holcut in Tishomingo county Mississippi where he graduated in 1959. He built high voltage electrical lines across the nation for TVA, Commonwealth Electric, Transpower, American Line Builders, and L E Myers. George proudly served in the Army National Guard for a short time. His servant heart also led him to become a 32 degree Mason and Shriner as well as being an integral part of his Church community at Woodridge Baptist Church leading his adult Sunday school class with great response from his fellow church members.
The accomplishment he was most proud of was his children. He and Juanita, wife of 40 years, raised 4 great children. William "Billy" Bissette (Amy), Sherry Winkler, Kim Turk (John), and George "Joey" Merrill Jr. They have 12 grandchildren- Derek Bissette, Jessica Silva (Stephen), Jennifer Clark (Jay), Tara Atkinson (Travis), David Hill (Lea), Benjamin Hill, Damian Turk (Jennifer), Ashley Igo (Mike), Marc Danahey, Tyler Winkler, Georgia Ann Merrill, and Adam Merrill. They have 8 great grandchildren- Trevor Bissette, Colby Bissette, Jackson Hill, Aubree Atkinson, Wynnston Turk, Hayes Turk, Cameron Igo, and Jordan Igo.

Visitation is Tuesday 5-7pm at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Service is Wednesday August 15, 2018 at Woodridge Baptist Church with visitation 12-1 pm, funeral at 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at Pinecrest West Cemetery located on Snow Road.

In lieu of Flowers the family request donations in his name to the Shriners.
