George John Sangilan, Jr. passed away on August 10, 2023 at W.F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette, AL. He was the first baby born in Mobile Alabama on January 1, 1936 to Gregorio and Rafaela Sangilan. He attended McGill Institute and then enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served in the Korean War. After honorably discharging as a Staff Sergeant from the Marine Corp in 1956, he later worked for Gordon Transport as an office manager. Later he worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding as a pipefitter. He enjoyed spending time, especially eating "fried rice" in Japan. Excellent at dancing, fishing, playing guitar, woodworking and small engine repair; he also enjoyed watching his favorite movies and listening to his favorite music, as well as feeding birds and tending to his roses. He is preceded in death by his wife Jessie Lou Sangilan and prior to her, Joann Ming and his sister Juanita Delores Sangilan Lester. He is survived by his sisters, Carmen Sangilan Daws and Nina Sangilan Ward; Daughters, Angelita Burdick and Lisa Marie Sangilan; he is also survived by his sons, Barry Glenn (Rhonda) Haynes and George Gregory (Marichu Fornis) Sangilan as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a hard working man who took pride in everything he did, steadfast in his faith to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Public viewing will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Rd. Mobile, AL 36619 on Saturday August 19, 2023 beginning at 9 a.m. followed by a Chapel service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life will be held beginning at 12 noon at Corpus Christi Catholic Church located at 6300 McKenna Dr. Mobile, Al 36608.
