George Henry Whisenhant, born in Whistler, AL and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Friday, March 15, 2019 at the age of 89. He went to work for ICG Railroad at the age of 17 and retired from GM&O Railroad after many years of service. He collected clocks and watches from Germany; loved to read; work on old cars; feed the birds and was an avid Alabama football fan. He was preceded in death by his father, William James Whisenhant; his mother, Flossie Parnell Boyles; two sons, Jonathan and Stanley Whistenhant and his sister, Dorothy Thornton. His survivors include his wife Marlene A. Whisenhant; his children, Benjamin Whisenhant; Ada Whisenhant; Sara (Andrew) Hall and Robin (Teresa) Barnett; five grandchildren, Matthew (Morgan) Whisenhant, Alexander (Amanda) Whisenhant, Jeffery Whisenhant; Drew (Allison) Hall and Ashley (Paul) Kleinschrodt; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Memorial service Tuesday, March 19, 2019 3:30 PM, Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation from 2:00 PM until service time.
