Mr. Gerald Brooks, age 80, of Theodore, AL, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018. He was born and raised in Clay County, Alabama before enlisting in the United States Army. He honorably served his country most of his life in the United States Army and Army National Guard. Gerald was a member of First Baptist Church of Irvington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Lera Brooks; sisters, Lucille Parker, Rudene Luker, Mavis Morris and Avis Brown; and brothers, Avery Brooks, Arnold Brooks and Baron Brooks.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Thelma Brooks; daughter, Susan Hammond (Tim); son, Wilson Brooks; grandchildren, Lydia Jane Love (Zack) and Nathan Gerald Hammond; sisters, Merle Young, Betty Ashley and Wilma Newsome; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Irvington Building Fund, 9074 Irvington Bayou La Batre Hwy, Irvington, AL 36544.
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL.
