Gerald Monroe "Tugboat" Hamilton, 79, of Irvington, AL passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017. Gerald retired from the United States Coast Guard as a Chief Bosin-Mate after 26 years of service. During his tour of duty he was awarded five Good Conduct Awards and the Governor's Award on May 19, 1978 in Montgomery, AL. He was a tugboat captain for 20 years. Gerald loved the outdoors, was an avid Alabama football fan and loved reading his bible. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton Leroy Hamilton and Roxie Newell Hamilton; his son, Dewayne "Peanut" Hamilton; two brothers, Vernon Hamilton and Lloyd Hamilton and one sister, Helen Hamilton Manasco. His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Cecilia Ann Poiroux Hamilton; two sons, Richard "Ricky" Hamilton and Kenny Hamilton; two brothers, James (Mary) Hamilton and Terry (Diane) Hamilton; one sister, Peggy Hamilton Wood; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Laura Hamilton; other relatives and friends. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Steve Merritt and Brother Dale Murphy, will be held Monday, December 18, 2017 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Magnolia Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, 6058 Theodore-Dawes Road, Theodore, AL 36582. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com.
