Gisela Erika Mattern Wardlaw
1940-2019
Age 78, of Mobile AL passed away after a brief illness, on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at home with her husband by her side. She was born in Worms, Germany on May 4, 1940.She met and married James "Jim" Lee Wardlaw in Mobile and they were married for 45 years. Jim worked for the Corps of Engineers Germany in Mobile and they also had assignments in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Kwajalein Island in The Marshall Islands. Gisela "Gis" worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Richard Noblet for over 30 years. She loved her coworkers and her patients and they all loved her. They were her adopted family. She always had a smile on her face. Gisela was an avid tennis player and was captain of many winning teams. She was a huge lover of all animals. She and Jim traveled the world and they enjoyed over 40 cruises together. She is survived by her loving husband, James "Jim" Lee Wardlaw; her beloved puppy, Schatze; sister in law, Phyllis Neidigh; her brother in law, David D. Wardlaw; step daughters, Martha and Emily Wardlaw; adopted step son, David Wardlaw; many nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Springhill Medical Center and a special thanks to Dr. Ken Ellingwood for his loving concern and care for Gis, also many thanks to Mrs. Brandy Lassiter (Angel Hands & Caring Hearts for Senior Care) and her caregivers for lovingly caring for Gisela and Jim. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Celebration at 12:00 in the Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will be held at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Ft., AL. Gifts may be made to The Mobile SPCA. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilefuneralservice.com.
