Gloria Caddell

Gloria May Farquhar Caddell passed away peacefully on August 12, 2015, in Evans, Georgia. Gloria was born on May 8, 1922 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, the daughter of Raymond James and Anna Parker Farquhar. She is survived by her seven children, their spouses, and ten grandchildren: Ramona Nystrom (Richard and Katy) of Charlotte, NC; Gloria Caddell (Bill and Dylan) of Arcadia, OK and San Francisco, CA; Kathleen Harris (Hunter) of South Lake Tahoe, CA; William Ralph, Jr. (Donna, Jake, and Rachael) of Gonzalez, LA; Kevin (Terri, Kelli, and Taylor) of Mobile, AL; Gary (Cynthia, Mark, and Katherine) of Birmingham, AL; and Mary Caddell (Valera and Hannah) of Martinez, GA. She is also survived by her brother James Farquhar of Leominster, MA; her sisters Anna Hansen of Bedford, MA and Mildred Farquhar of Worcester, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, William Ralph Caddell; her brother, Raymond James Farquhar, Jr.; her sisters, Marjorie Anderson and Virginia Whitehead; and her son-in-law, Lowell Harris. Gloria graduated from St. Bernard High School in Fitchburg, MA. She joined the Girl Scouts when she was 10 years old, became a Mariner Scout, and earned the Golden Eaglet, Girl Scout's highest award. She met her husband Ralph at the USO Club in Fitchburg during World War II. They married on July 29, 1950, and moved to Mobile, AL. in 1951. For over 50 years Gloria was an instrumental part of Scouting at Little Flower School and across Mobile. She taught countless girls to swim, camp, canoe, cook over a campfire, and live by the Girl Scout Law. She also volunteered for over 50 years for the American Red Cross, teaching first aid and swimming classes and working at hurricane shelters. For many years, she worked at the voting polls. In 2005, she was honored as a "Southern Hero" for her outstanding community service. Many will remember Gloria as the "Fuller Brush Lady" who counted her customers as friends and for many years made her deliveries by bicycle. Gloria was an incredible role model and inspiration to her children and grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 8:00 on Monday, August 17th at the Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 on Tuesday, August 18th at Little Flower Catholic Church, with visitation at 12:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Little Flower Catholic Church in Mobile, AL or to the Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama.
