Gracie Bertran Moody died peacefully at the age of 81 the morning of August
5th, 2024. Born on November 8th, 1942 in Mobile, Alabama, she was the daughter of
Carlie Marshal Summers and Edith Bertran Walley.
Gracie dedicated her life to the Lord, her family and community, raising her
children and actively participating in the church. Alongside her work as a homemaker,
Gracie worked over twenty-five years as a cosmetologist. Gracie's pride and joy were her
children and grandchildren ; she nourished their bodies with home cooked meals and
their minds with scripture.
In addition to caring for her family, Gracie was an active member in the church
community, raising money for those in need and teaching Sunday school. She gifted
both her family and church with her gentle, joyous way of life. She took pleasure in the
small things and shared her lighthearted laugh and beautiful smile generously. Speaking
with Gracie was a pure pleasure ; her delightful presence made one instantly at ease.
Gracie fed her creativity in many ways, including painting, cooking, sewing and
starting a "this and that" arts and crafts company with a dear friend. She possessed a
great attention to detail exemplified by her meticulous brush strokes and flawless
recipes. Her paintings adorn the walls of her children's homes and her recipes remain
unmatched.
Known for her steadfast faith and loving nature, Gracie was a spring of wise
adages and bible verses for those in need of advice. She began each day before sunrise,
spending time in communion with the Lord and waking up her children with "Rise and
shine! Today is tomorrow ; this is the day the Lord has made! Let's rejoice and be glad
therein!"
Gracie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Carlie and Bertran
Summers, her sister Doris Butler and brother Simon Summers.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Melvin Russell Moody and
their four lovely children Pam Henderson (Jim), Phyllis McAleer (Jim), Jeff Moody
(Patricia), Terry Moody (Alisha). Each of her children exhibit her joy of living within
their outgoing natures, "loving hard" just like their dear mother. Gracie's memory will
forever be cherished by her grandchildren, Weston Moody (Anna), Russell Moody,
Ramsey Moody, Olivia Renée McAleer and Sophia Moody.
A fountain of joy, creativity, and affection, Gracie's presence was a beloved gift to
those around her. Her friends and family will miss her enormously and will hold her
loving memory dear within their hearts.
In honor and celebration of Gracie's remarkable life, a memorial service will be
held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Snow Road Missionary Baptist Church, 809 Snow
