Harold Glidden

Heavens gates opened and welcomed Mr. Harold Vernon Glidden into Jesus's arms on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, in the William F. Greene Veteran's Home. He was ninety-two years old and a resident of the William F. Greene Veteran's Home. Harold was born in Beaumont, Texas and moved to Mobile about seventy-eight years ago.
He is preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Patsy Morris Glidden, his parents, Allen Leon Glidden and Mattie Creagh Dresse, and his brother, A.L. Glidden.
He is survived by his daughter Carol Glidden Taylor (Frank "Toppie"), grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Taylor and Frank Harry Taylor III "Trey", and many nieces and nephews.
Harold graduated from Murphy High School in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Marines during World War II and served in the Pacific . After the war he was employed by Kraft Bag Corporation and Austill Waxed Paper Company. He worked many years for South Central Bell Telephone Company. After leaving the telephone company he opened his own business, Glidden Real Estate and Insurance Company which later became Glidden Real Estate and Construction Company. Before retiring, Harold worked for the Veteran's Administration as a Management Broker.
He met, fell in love, and married Patsy on October 15, 1947 at Dauphin Way Baptist Church. They were longtime members of the church. Harold served as a deacon, Sunday School and Training Union teacher, and on many other church committees. God blessed Harold and Patsy with a daughter who was the light of their life. After retiring, he devoted the rest of his life to loving and enjoying his two grandchildren. He will be remembered for his commitment to Christ and love for his family and friends.
The family would like to thank SpringHill Home Health and Hospice, Covenant Care Hospice, and the staff of William F. Greene Veteran's Home for their many years of service to Harold.
