Harold James Spikes Sr was born on January 13, 1931, in Mobile, Alabama, and passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021. Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
He was preceded in death by his parents Beatrice Harbaugh Spikes and Paul Edward Spikes; sister Shirley Jean Hopkins; brothers Aaron Wesley Spikes and Paul Clifton Spikes; Daughter in Law Lorelei Harris Spikes.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Downey Spikes; sister Florence Ethel Jones; sons Dr. Harold James (Jim) Spikes Jr., Kenneth Wesley Spikes (Nazareth), Daughter Susan Spikes Lee (Ronn). Seven grandchildren Allison Spikes Pierce (Stephen), Natalie Spikes Hanks (Brian), Amanda Spikes Johnson (Stephen), Allyn Spikes Farmer (Cole), Andrea Spikes, Thomas Harold Clough (Meagan) and Elizabeth Ann Clough. Nine great grandchildren Addy, Lucy, Eli, Caroline, Ellis, Mabel, Nathaniel, Ethan, Agnes and an expected 10th great grandchild Noah; close relatives Patricia Spikes Clarke and Thomas Reynolds Clough and other nieces and nephews.
He graduated in 1948 from Murphy High School. In 1954 he graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jimmy retired from the U.S Army Corp of Engineers in 1990 as Mechanical Engineering Section Chief. He retired in 1991 with the rank of Colonel, USAR.
For sixty-five years he served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Church leader at Oakdale Baptist Church and Woodridge Baptist Church. He had the honor of being named the 1st Deacon Emeritus at Woodridge Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, from 12:00 - 1:30 with services following at Woodridge Baptist Church, 2700 Schillingers Road South, Mobile, Alabama 36695. There will be a private interment at Pine Crest Cemetery.
