Herman "Dusty" Rhodes, age 81, passed away on April 26, 2022 in Mobile, AL. Mr. Rhodes was born to Chester A. Rhodes and Jessie B. Rhodes in Graysville, AL on May 4, 1940. He enlisted into the United States Navy in 1958 where he served his country honorably and with great pride. He served on the USS Watson before leaving the armed forces but would continue working on ships as an electrician for many years. Mr. Rhodes celebrated a wide range of hobbies and passions including Bible study, mechanics and engineering, building and construction, and space exploration. He was an accomplished guitarist with an ear for bluegrass, a talented painted and sketcher and an author. Of all his passions, he loved his God, his family and his friends the most.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Jessie Rhodes; siblings, Howard, Rivers, Violet, Charles, and Chester Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Vivian Rhodes; children, Scottie D. (Rhonda) Rhodes and Robert "Dale" (Julie) Rhodes; grandchildren, Rachael "Alex" Rhodes (Seth) Parker, Jeffrey M. Rhodes, Makayla E. Rhodes, and William Thomas "Tommy" Rhodes; one great-grandchild on her way, Callie Elizabeth Parker; sister, Nancy Collins; nieces, Lisa Russell, Rhonda Rhodes Pearson, Teresa Rhodes, Janice Cucci, and Marilyn Busby; nephews, Dan Rhodes and Ron Oldham; brother-in-law, Freddie Livermore; other relatives and many friends.
Services will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, April 30, 2022, with visitation from 10:00am until the service time at 12:00pm. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
