Hilde Gertrud Renkel Farrel, a native of Idar-Oberstein, Germany and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the age of 90. Hilde was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church; a member of the German-American Society; the Sister City of Mobile organization; the Coca-Cola Society and, in her pastime, enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking German recipes, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was employed in security at Gayfer's Department Store for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Klara Renkel; her husband, William Phillip Farrel; two sisters, Else Renkel Barbier and Hannelore Renkel Gorlitz, both of Germany and a brother, Gunter G. Renkel, also of Germany. Her survivors include her daughter, Barbara F. (John) Harden; one granddaughter, Christina Harden Ladner; one grandson, Sean Phillip Harden; great-granddaughter, Olivia Grace Ladner; great-grandson, Rhett McKenlee Harden, all of Long Beach, MS; nephew, Thomas (Gabriele) Gorlitz of Germany and "adopted granddaughter", Kimberly Davis, of Atlanta, GA. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 2, 2018, from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 1:00 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Mrs. Farrel's name be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 5101 Government Blvd., Mobile, AL 36693.
