Hollis Shumock

Hollis J Shumock, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2021 at a local hospital in Mobile AL. Hollis was born in Frisco City AL in 1934. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ezra Shumock and Virgie Norris Shumock, and sister Dorothy Bush. Hollis joined the Air Force after graduating from Baker High School in 1953. Later that same year, he married his high school sweetheart Carmel Robertson. The military took Hollis to Illinois and then overseas to England. He returned to Mobile in 1957, after finishing his military commitment, and began his career at Mobile Gas Company. 43 years later, in 2000, Hollis retired from Mobile Gas as a construction supervisor. Hollis is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Carmel Shumock; son Jimmy (Debbie) Shumock, Daphne AL; daughter, Donna (David) Friday, Saraland AL; granddaughter, Amanda (Matt) King, Alpharetta GA; great-granddaughters, Darby (TJ) Beasley and Laney King; two great-great grands, Shay and Bentley Beasley; sister-in-law, Naomi Pinto; brothers-in-law, Wilson (Ann) Robertson; Roe (Lynn) Robertson; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Fishing, hunting, gardening, and sports were lifelong hobbies of Hollis'. He was a faithful fan of South Alabama sports where he was loved by many and will be truly missed. All who knew him loved him. He was a great man - loyal and faithful to his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, My 25, 2021 at 10:00am from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Family will receive friends Tuesday 9am until service time. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family request gifts be made to the Hollis and Carmel Shumock Endowed Scholarship in Business or the Jaguar Athletic Fund.
