Howard Lyles

Charles Howard Lyles, Howard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a native of Florence, AL but made his home in Mobile since 1973. He started a life-long career with Standard Oil Co. in 1956 immediately after graduating from Coffee High School in Florence. During his time with Standard Oil, he developed a new Accounting Program that was used with some of the first computers in Birmingham. He later served in the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Howard received a top security military clearance and spent his time during the Crisis decoding many high level security messages. Shortly after moving to Mobile, he purchased Lyles' Chevron on Springhill Ave. He completed one of his dreams when he graduated from South Alabama in 1991 with a Business degree. After 26 years, he retired from business. During his retirement, he continued his love of travel and cruises. The Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and the Smokey Mountains were his favorites. Howard was always ready to set off on an adventure. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed daily crossword and cryptogram puzzles. His love for dogs began in his childhood and continued. He will be greatly missed by his pets, Baxter and Charlie. Howard is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Glenda. His children Tammy Foley (Dan), Robin Younkin (Mike), Nicolle Brooks (Randy) and Steven Lewis (Tamara). His grandchildren, Jonathon, Catherine, Elizabeth, Jackson, Rusty, Alex, Ryan, Jordan, Sarah and Sam. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the National Parkinson Foundation. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 3 pm at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
