Irble Vaughn King Branaman, longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the age of 91. She was born March 15, 1925 in Glenmora, LA and was the only daughter of Mac and Hattie Chaney King. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tillman's Corner, and was very active in her Sunday school class and senior citizens' group. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; served on the Board of Directors of Tillman's Corner Community Center; and retired in 1986 as executive secretary for Mitchel Company Shopping Center Management. She possessed exceptional writing skills and served as historian and recorder for many Shriner conventions, as well as army reunions for Harry's 563rd US Army Company. In addition, Irble and Harry were ardent volunteers for the Shriner's Hospital, driving many ill or injured children and their parents to Shreveport, LA and Galveston, TX for treatment. Her organizational skills served her and others well. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mac King and Hattie Chaney King. Her survivors include her husband of 72 years, Harry Wells Branaman, Jr.; her daughter, Sharon Jean Branaman; one grandson, Robert Morrison McSherry, Jr.; two great-granddaughters, Sarah Cole McSherry and Annie Hamilton; cousins, Skipper Tate, Michael Reaves, David Reaves, Mark Chaney, Wendy Howell and their families; other relatives and friends. Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Gregory T. Pouncey and Rev. Mark Griffin, will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 12:00 Noon from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mrs. Branaman's name be made to the Abba Shrine Transportation Fund, 7701 Hitt Road, Mobile, AL 36693.
