HICKOX
Dec. 1, 1927-Aug. 16, 2016
Ivan Newell "Skeet" Hickox, 88, returned to his heavenly home on August 16, 2016. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him throughout his life and ultimately gave him and his family peace at his death.
Skeet was born to the late Charlie and Irene Hickox in Texon, TX, on December 20, 1927. Skeet graduated from Iraan High School and attended Schreiner Military Institution in Kerrville, TX. He later graduated from Texas Tech University in 1951 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Skeet was blessed with a large and loving family. He married the love of his life, Ruby E. Hickox, on February 24, 1950 in Seagraves, TX. He raised his four children with love. He taught them the importance of hard work, education, and faith. Skeet supported the Gideons, often speaking in churches and distributing Bibles in person. In addition, he could often be found visiting in hospitals and homes. He loved to teach Sunday school inspired by his great love of scripture.
As a Professional Petroleum Engineer, Skeet worked tirelessly in the oilfields of Texas, Alabama, West Virginia, and virtually all over the country. He was an independent self-made man who produced oil and gas, changing how states handled the environmental wastes of oil and gas production. In addition, he discovered new oilfields and tertiary techniques that led the way into pioneering new production methods.
He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
In addition to his wife, Ruby, he is survived by children, Charles N. Hickox, II and wife, Wanda, of Mobile, AL; Phillis Rea Steele and husband, J. Randall Steele, of Montgomery, TX; Irene Marie Holbrook and husband, Steve, of Mobile, AL; Patrick Paul Hickox and wife, Heather, of Fairhope, AL. He is also survived by grandchildren: Elaine Hageman and husband, Mark; Chas Hickox; Chris Hickox; Daniel Hickox and wife, Andrea; John Steele and wife, Jennifer; Christi Emmons and husband, Chris; Steven Holbrook; Katie Holbrook; Hollie Holbrook; Hunter Hickox and Savannah Hickox. His great-grandchildren include Jake, Tyler, Cody, Cloe, Cathy, and Molly Hageman; Zane Hickox and Ally Miller; Ava Hickox; Loralei, Bella, and Ellie Steele; Aubrey and Adalyn Emmons.
In addition to his parents, Skeet is proceeded in death by his sister, Charlene Albert, and brother, Thomas Hickox.
