James S. Jim Harrell, age 82 passed away on Saturday after a brief illness. He was a native of Birmingham and longtime resident of Mobile. He was retired from the U. S. Marine Corp and a veteran of both the Korean and Viet Nam wars. He was a Life Member of the P. L. Wilson Detachment of the Marine Corp League, served as State Commandant for four terms, and was a Pedigree Devil Dog.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Laura Alyce Harrell, his parents John Melvin Harrell and Evelyn Tapscot Harrell, and one brother, Forrest Harrell. He is survived by three daughters, Deborah Moore of Hattiesburg, MS Donna Sanders of Mobile, AL and Denise Sims of Mobile, AL one sister, Carolyn Marbury of Bossier City, LA, and five grandchildren Tanya Moore Cook, Jason Sanders, Lauren Sanders, Sara Sims and Reno Sims, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will start at 11:00 AM, burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
