James "Jimmy" Cyrus Haskew, Jr., a resident of Mobile, AL, left to be with the Lord after a brief illness on Sunday, August 27, 2017. He was born in Dickinson, AL and graduated from Clarke County High School. Jimmy was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he obtained his B.A. degree in English. He taught at Bayside Academy in Fairhope, AL, then moved to Shreveport, LA where, for 30 years, he taught English and Latin at Southfield School and Caddo Magnet High School. Jimmy was an avid reader of popular as well as classic literature. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lela Bell Gates Haskew and James Cyrus Haskew, Sr., and his sisters, Gaytha Champion and Hazel Etheridge. Jimmy is survived by one niece, four nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was a foster father and mentor to Richard Akeroyd. He organized 10 tours of the British Isles and Greece for his students and was especially fond of London and the English people. He was a devoted dog owner, and treated his various dog companions as though they were his children. He attended "Crufts," the largest international dog show in the world, and also attended the Westminster Dog Show in New York. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 12:00 Noon in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
