James Daniel (JD) Thames peacefully went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2020 in Bay Minette, Alabama. JD was born on November 15, 1931 in Elba, Alabama to John David and Ollie Mae Thames. He was married to his faithful partner, Roberta “Bobbie” Thames, for 66 years. He and his wife had two amazing children, Mitchell Thames and Carla Thames White. Left to remember JD (or as they call him, PawPaw) are his wife Roberta; his sister Edna Smart; his children and their spouses - Mitch and Carolyn Thames, Carla White; his 4 grandchildren and their spouses - Jason and Monica Dittfurth, Jennifer and Greg Hester, Stephanie and Eric Gentry, Bobbie and Gabe Riley, and PawPaw’s 6 great grandchildren - Addison, Kaitlyn, Reagan, Elizabeth, Easton, and Jackson. JD served in the US Navy for four years. After that, he was with South Central Bell Telephone company for 40 years. He loved playing and watching golf, attending services at Cottage Hill Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, being with his family, and watching University of Alabama football games. Roll Tide! JD is preceded in death by his son in law James White, his parents, and his 2 brothers and 5 sisters. The service will take place on Thursday, October 8, 2020, for family members only.
