James Daniel Thompson, age 85, a resident of Irvington, Alabama, died on Tuesday,
October 13, 2015, at home with his family. He was born January 9, 1930, in Heron Bay, Alabama.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Marietta Collier Thompson, his son, James Daniel (Danny) Thompson, Jr., his parents, William Edward Thompson and Olive Corrine Covas Thompson, six brothers, William (Fritz) Thompson, Ernest (Red) Thompson, Claude (Black) Thompson, Robert (Bobby) Thompson, Francis (Bubba) Thompson, Jack (Jack) Thompson, two sisters, Mildred Thompson Johnson, and Betty Thompson.
He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He will be sadly missed by his daughter-in-law, Shirley Kelly Thompson, one granddaughter, Amy M. Thompson Marsland (Eric-John), one grandson, Joey Daniel Thompson, three great-grandsons, James McIntire Marsland, Thomas Daniel Marsland, George William Marsland, three brothers, Clarence Thompson, Percy Thompson, and B. G. Thompson, nieces, nephews, other relatives, many dear friends, and his "granddog" Skipper.
Dan, as he was affectionately known, worked many years in the maritime industry as a licensed boat captain, boat owner, commercial fisherman, and as a sub-contractor with Burlington Northern Railroad as a tugboat ferry owner/operator.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM from the chapel. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements by MOBILE MEMORIAL GARDENS FUNERAL HOME 6040 Three Notch Rd. Mobile, AL.
