Jean Kitchens Owen passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at her home in Gulf Shores, Al, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Aldridge, AL to Drennen Daniel Kitchens and Altie Mae Majors Kitchens. Her family moved to Mobile, AL when she was a child. She was a 1950 graduate of Murphy High School.
She married her high school sweetheart, Leonard Watson Owen. During their first years of marriage, she remained in Mobile while Leonard served in the US Navy. Upon his return, they traveled the country with Leonard's job in construction until 1959. They moved to Gulf Shores in the 90's where Jean enjoyed flower gardens; her specialty was orchids. She will be most remembered as a wonderful wife and mother and lovingly doted over her grandchildren. She was an accomplished seamstress, and made an elaborate gown and hat for her younger sister who was an Azalea Trail Maid. She was a very loving and giving person. Prior to her retirement she worked for Mae's Fabrics.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Kenneth Wayne Owen; two sisters, Betty Sue Kitchens and Patricia Danvir. Two brothers; Gerald and Doyle D. Kitchens.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years; one daughter, Terry Patricia Smith; two sons; Garry Len Owen, Ronald Daniel Owen; Six Grandchildren and spouses, Heather (David) Thomas, Taylor Wayne Owen, Brian Coyle, Christy Coyle, Tiffany Starla Owen, and Krissy (Carlos) Sicoro and thirteen great-grandchildren; One sister, Bobbie Joyce (Douglas) McLeod and other relatives and friends.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until service time at 2:00 pm.
Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
