Some knew her by Mrs. Jennie, some by Mrs. Robertson, and others by Mamaw, and of course, Momma. If you knew her at all, consider yourself blessed. Born in 1931, Jennie Lee Harp Robertson, aged 86, died peacefully on December 7, 2017 at her home, surrounded by family. Her job on earth complete, she crossed Jordan from Nicholl Drive and awoke to the joy of her Savior and the embrace of her beloved Mitchell, who died nineteen years earlier. And while the sting of her loss is fresh and prevalent, the feeling of utter despair is absent through that blessed hope in Christ. In death, she represents not merely the loss of a life, but of a lifestyle as well. Some might say her task on earth was simple. She spent her life making the lives of others easier. Her accolades do not include fancy titles, awards, or degrees, but to us, she was all things perfect. She typified the Southern matriarch. She was ever the lady, devoted to the affairs of her house and performing all the duties of a faithful wife and mother of three. She busied herself with housework, and made cooking and cleaning seem as effortless as a microwave oven. Other prominent roles included pianist, gospel singer, seamstress, caregiver, nurse, hostess, crossword puzzler extraordinaire, and most of all, ours. We knew quite well that her journey was drawing to its close and perhaps assumed she would weather one more Christmas with us on earth. A constancy in our lives, she will not be here as she always has been for the holidays. She was a bastion of permanence in a world in which the only certainty seems to be change. Her legacy will not be measured by earthly awards or tangible trophies and achievements, but rather in memories of faith, life, and love. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Karen (Tony) Combs, Mickey (Nancy) Robertson, and Anita (Billy) Whitfield; her grandchildren, Beau (Joanna) Robertson, Christy (Kevin) Kent, T.C. (Corey) Combs, Katie Robertson, Stacey (Trey) Griggs, Will (Bethany) Whitfield, and Mitchell Whitfield; great-grandchildren, Lauren, John, and Megan Kent, Weston Combs, Brayden, Brooks, and Elsie Robertson, and Emma Griggs; and also by her brother, Buddy (Wanda) Harp. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 11th at 12:00 noon, followed immediately by a funeral service celebrating her life at 2:00 p.m at Cypress Shores Baptist Church. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be expressed at www.mobilefuneralservice.com. Funeral arrangements by Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
