Jerry Linwood Busby of Mobile, Alabama, a dedicated family and Christian man, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the age of 73.
Jerry was born on June 15, 1948, to father Chester Cornelius Busby and Mother Joyce Antonio Busby. He was the second of four children and graduated from Davidson High School in 1966. After graduation, Jerry served honorably in the Navy until returning home in 1968. He received a certificate in data processing from Southwest State Technical School and had a long and prosperous career in the field of Information Technology.
On June 20, 1969, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Linda Diane Kirksey, at Manor Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. After living in Laurel, Mississippi and Waynesboro, Mississippi, where they welcomed children Jennifer Diane Busby and Kevin Linwood Busby, Jerry and Diane returned to Mobile, Alabama. In all, Jerry and Diane had 52 blissful years of marriage, dedicated to each other, and building a loving family.
Jerry was an avid golfer, spending many a weekend at Azalea City Golf Course with his golfing buddies. He introduced his father-in-law to the game golf and the two had many fun-filled rounds together. In addition, Jerry enjoyed traveling, especially in retirement with his wife and friends. Vacations included trips to Scotland, Cape Cod, and the Smokey Mountains. He was an avid Alabama football fan, often texting with his son during the games, and enjoyed watching the New Orleans Saints with his grandson.During his retirement, he often enjoyed watching the wildlife outside his kitchen window. But perhaps his favorite pastime was playing games with his family. There were many fun games of Balderdash, Scattergories, Trivia Crack, and Yahtzee, often partnering with his daughter in team games. He was even known to lean in for a kiss from his wife to peak at her hand during a card game.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Chester, and Joyce. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane, his proud children, Jennifer McFarland (husband Mike) and Kevin Busby (wife Kele), his precious grandchildren Sean Christopher Busby, Ethan Stone Busby, and Autumn Lyn Busby, his wonderful siblings Chester C Busby Jr, Jimmie Busby, Joy Diane Harden, and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 6100 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama at 10am on November 5, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to your favorite charity in memory of Jerry Busby. His favorite charity was Samaritan's Purse.
