Jerry Vann Dyess, Sr.

Jerry Vann Dyess, Sr., of Mobile, AL, died Monday, January 7, 2019. Jerry, who was raised in Meridian, MS, was a sales professional in the building materials industry, and one of the founding members of the Bay Area Tennis Association. He played football for East Mississippi Junior College (one of Bull Sullivan's Boys), and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi.
He was an avid sports fan with a competitive spirit, who loved his White Sox in the spring, Golden Eagles in the fall, and tennis year round. He enjoyed "walking the lines" on his family land in Waynesboro, MS and spending time with his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Lois Vann Dyess; his sisters, Rhonda Dyess and Sarah Brewer; and his brother, William "Sonny" Dyess. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen "Tootsie" Ikerd Dyess; three children, Leslie Dyess (Brad) Smith, Jerry Dyess, Jr. (Jessica), and Dana Dyess (Wilson) Russ; grandchildren, Katie Dyess and Joseph, William, Allie, Wilson, and John Russ; and his siblings, Ann Hardy, Jane Pruett, and Steve Dyess.
Jerry's family would like to send a special thank you to all of his caregivers from Kindred Hospice, Brookside Memory Care, Allen Memorial, and especially Vince Etheridge. He has been a blessing to the family.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 at 12:00 Noon from the Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Fred Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon.
