Jerry Don King, age 85 peacefully entered the arms of his Saviour on February 18, 2025. He was born on July 9, 1939 in Nauvoo, Alabama to Mr. & Mrs. B. H. King. Jerry lived a life of honor, duty and resilience. In 1955 while still in Sheffield High School, he joined the US Army National Guard where he laid the foundation for a future defined by service to his country. In 1957, he graduated and enlisted in the United States Army where he achieved many accolades after basic training including Master Sergeant E-8. He married early in his career having 3 children. He traveled the world on many tours including Turkey and Germany. In 1966 he was stationed at Correy Field Pensacola and was selected as Instructor 286. In 1970 he was the recipient of The Admiral Jefferson Dennis Award for instructor of the year.
He retired in 1977 receiving the following metals: MSM 1 Oakleaf, ARCOM 1 Oakleaf, Good Conduct Silver Knot, and Metal National Defense. After retiring, he began working for Commercial Laundry Equipment Company from 1977 - 2021 as a service technician in Gulfbreeze, Florida. Jerry loved to fish, watch NASCAR and football games. His favorite teams to watch were Alabama, Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. He also loved spending time with his family.
He is proceded in death by his parents, Benjamin H. King and Lola L. King, his brother, Robert H. King, his daughter Katherine A. King and his former wife Marie E. King.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years Joy L. King of Loxley, Alabama. His sisters, Sarah Hill (WC) of Coleman, Alabama and Joan Powers of Tuscumbia, Alabama. His sons, Don D. King of Pensacola, Florida, and Keith A. King (Stephanie) of Dallas, Texas. His stepdaughters Lanell D. Mills of Pensacola, Florida. Katrina L. Crider (Shane) of Luthersville, Georgia. and Kimberly S. Beasley of Loxley, Alabama and Jeremy Beasley of Pascagoula, Mississippi. His grandchildren, Cody J. King (Chelsea) of Austin, Texas. Ava M King of Dallas Texas and Sophia L King of Dallas, Texas. His 8 step grandchildren , Tyler and Austin of Pensacola, Florida. Micheal (Jocelynn) Thomas and Haley of Georgia. Athan of Pascagoula, Mississippi. Seah and Ocean of Loxley, Alabama and 2 great grandchildren Gracie King and Riley King of Austin, Texas and 3 step great grandchildren, Matthew and Malaya of Pensacola,Florida. And Remi of Georgia.
Family visitation will be held at 12 noon Public visitation will be held at 1 PM and services will begin at 2 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens and Chapel with Reverend Wesley Enfinger Officiating.
Burial will follow with Military Honors.
