Jimmy George Lowe, Sr. Jimmy was born in Fulton, AL., but moved to Chickasaw and later moved to Mobile where he resided for many years. He passed away on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015 at a local hospital. At the age 15, he quit school and took a job at a small grocery store in Chickasaw. When customers would call in their orders to the store, he would load the groceries in a large basket, get on a bicycle and ride through the neighborhood delivering groceries. At a later age of 19, he went to work at B&H Food Store on Holcombe Ave. He became Produce Manager for about 40 years total. There he made many friends and he loved them all. Later on, he and his son talked about going in business for themselves. His son who was called "Jimbo" opened a small fruit stand on Hwy. 90. Jimmy, Sr. along with his daughter, Cindy Russell worked for Jimbo at his fruit stand for 25 years. The hard work, many hours and the pride he took in his job was the success of Jimmy Lowe's Fruit Stand. He was known as the Best Produce Man in the State of Alabama. He was a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church for 42 years. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Virta Vickers Lowe, a sister, Elma Rhee Lowe and a son, Jimmy (Jimbo) Lowe, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janis Siebert Lowe; children, Cindy (Tom deceased) Russell, Jimmy Jr. (deceased) and Chris (Mark) Chavers; five grandchildren, Candi Wilson (Chad). Jody Russell, Courtney Tillman (Andy), Bryce Chavers and Georgia Lowe; great grandchildren, Carleigh and Cailyn Wilson; sisters, Helen (Doyle) Webb and Bette Evans; many nieces and nephews. Special Thanks to Caring Heart nurses at Providence Hospital, Dr. Chad Alford and Dr. Amy Woodward. Pallbearers will be Jody Russell, Chad Wilson, Mark Chavers, Bryce Chavers, Andy Tillman and Michael Payne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Doyle Webb, John Seibert, Gene Etheredge, Harry Sims, Charlie Bridges and Joe Walther. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Coach Tom Russell Scholarship Fund in care of Faith Academy, 8650 Tanner Williams Rd., Mobile, AL 36608. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 10 AM. at Mobile Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 4 to 7 PM. At the funeral home.
