Joan Ritter Ralph

Joan Ritter Ralph passed away peacefully at a local healthcare facility on August 15, 2017. She was born on April 28, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Eva L. Ritter and Robert B. Ritter. She received a BSN degree from University of Maryland, a Master's degree from University of California Berkley and a PhD from Auburn University. She served on the faculty of the University of South Alabama School of Nursing from 1971-1991. Upon retirement she was awarded Professor Emeritus. After retirement, she cared for her husband, George F. Ralph, Jr. until his death in 1997. She was a prolific volunteer with her church, Springhill Presbyterian and with other charity and civic organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Robert B. Ritter, Jr. She is survived by her sons, George F. Ralph, III (Bunky) and Bradner C. Ralph (Kim), her grandchildren Madison Ralph and Brady Ralph, all of Alabama. She is also survived by her nieces, Robyn Ritter Freeburg and Stephanie Ritter Maat, both of Michigan. She will be greatly missed by the family and by the numerous nursing students she taught over the years. The family especially wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Bayridge Healthcare Center for the excellent care given to Joan. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday August 19, 2017, at Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church. Family will receive visitors during the prior hour. Arrangements are being handled by Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Springhill Presbyterian Church, Mobile, Al, and Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church, Spanish Fort, AL.
