Joan Wood

Joan Malone Wood, 82, the wife of the Rev. Charles P. Wood, departed this world to be with her savior, Jesus Christ, on January 21, 2018. For the past 43 years she was a resident of Mobile, AL and a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church, where her devoted husband served as an associate pastor for many years. She was born in Farmerville, LA, on May 22, 1935. Later, as childhood neighbors in the nearby city of Monroe, Joan and Charles first met. Following their respective graduations from high school, they married in 1954 at their home church, Central Baptist Church of Monroe. They relocated to Texas in 1956 to attend Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, then returned to Louisiana in 1958 to serve at First Baptist Church of Monroe. In 1965 they moved again and ministered for almost 10 years at First Baptist Church of Bossier City, LA, before settling in 1975 in their adopted hometown of Mobile. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Graydon Lavell Malone and Gladys Ethel Kennedy. In addition to her husband, Charles, she is survived by her son, Roger Wood and wife, Marla, of Houston, TX; her son, Terry Wood, and wife, Donna, of Mobile, AL; her son, Glen Wood, and wife, Arleane Huesman of Mobile, AL; her daughter, Jamey Wood Centanni, and husband, Paul, of Elberta, AL; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and numerous other dear relatives, including her siblings, Doyle Malone of Baton Rouge, LA; Jacqui Malone Smith of Seabrook, TX; and Crawford Malone of New Orleans, LA. The family invites you to attend a memorial service celebrating the life of Joan Wood on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 1 PM in the main auditorium of Cottage Hill Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, it is Joan's request that any tokens of remembrance be in the form of donations to the Cottage Hill Baptist Church Memorial Fund or to Gideon Memorial Bibles.
