Joe Burnell Carter, Sr. - a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, died Friday, September 11, 2015 with his family by his side. He was a graduate of the University of South Alabama; joined the US Air Force in 1947, served in the conflict in Korea and retired after 20 years of service. He later worked for Modern Sound, Inc. and Lanier, Inc. He was a Past President of the Crichton Optimist Club and served as the Lt. Governor Zone 7, the Alabama-Mississippi District, from 1986-1987. He and his wife, Marie, played golf with the Azalea City Couples' Group for over 10 years. Joe looked forward to his bi-weekly poker games with his friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Zeno Webb Carter, Sr. and Flora Lee Miller Carter, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joe and Edna Reinhart; and two sisters, Mildred Dillard and Eunice Bouyiar. His survivors include his wife of 65 years, Marie Reinhart Carter; sons, Joe B. (Terri) Carter, Jr. and Alan W. Carter; one daughter, Pamela Carter (Steve) Belcher; two grandchildren, Chris Carter and Courtney Belcher; two sisters, Helen Hughes and Janice (Larry) Sylvest; two brothers, Zeno Webb (Pat) Carter, Jr. and Robert Carter; other relatives and friends. A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday beginning at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Mr. Carter's name to Alzheimer's Foundation of the South, 5644 Girby Road, Mobile, AL 36693.
