Joel Scott Pate 06/12/1964 - 07/30/2017
With a heavy heart, JP Ventures Inc. (which companies include Ox Publishing, Hutton Chase, CreditMac and The Student LoanRecovery Plan), announces that Joel S. Pate, it's founder and CEO, passed away on July 30, 2017, peacefully in his sleep. Joel is survived by his wife, Mitzi Pate; mother, Delora Pate,Steve Pate (Nancy), two daughters, Miranda Pate Dismukes (Jonah) and Tucker Pate Jelercic (Anthony); his three grandchildren Preston, Stella Reese and Margaret;extended family and a multitude of friends.
Early in his career, Joel gained experience in the real estate and construction industry with Miranda Development, Inc. a highly recognized homebuilder in Alabama. For more than fifteen years, he oversaw the construction and sale of over 500 homes. In 2001, he founded American Family Funds, Down Payment Gift Program and helped to form the industry's trade associate, the Homeownership Alliance of Non-Profit Down Payment Providers (HAND). He served as HAND's first elected Chairman and with American Family Funds helped over 68,000 families purchase a home. Joel's moto was "Seek to do well while doing good!" His passion was for helping others to repair, rebuild and increase their credit worthiness to help them achieve their desires and live a full life. He had such a heart for people and it showed in his charitable donations; especially, to the Wings of Life, a local nonprofit, faith based life recovery center.
In 2007, Joel founded Ox Publishing and Hutton Chase, which are online merchandising stores whereby consumers can finance purchases; interest free. In 2010, he started CreditMac which assists consumers
with repairing their credit. In 2012, he became aware of the Student Loan debt crisis and the need for an advocate to assist consumers to get their student loans out of default and back on track. He founded The
Student Loan Recovery Plan and with his team, has helped thousands of consumers to consolidate their student loans into a repayment plan that is affordable to them.
Joel was an accomplished visionary, exceptional leader and true innovator. While he was proud of the success of his companies, his greatest achievement is his family. No matter what type of meeting he was
in or how busy he was, he stopped what he was doing to answer the call of "Chief" from his beautiful grandchildren when they came into the office. His presence and leadership will be greatly missed. Being the pragmatist that he was, Joel put asuccession plan in place to facilitate the continued growth and success of his vision and companies. The management and associates are dedicated to continuing his legacy. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Joel's family during this time and ask that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) at http://www.animalrescuemobile.org/ or The Ronald McDonald House at https://www.rmhc.org. Arrangements are as follows. All services will be held at St Paul's Episcopal Church. (4051 Old Shell Rd. Mobile, Al 36608) The family will hold a visitation on Thursday August 3rd. from 9:30 to 11am with a service to follow. Grave side service will immediately follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
