John William Hancock, born August 5, 1948 to J.W. Hancock and Earline Peden Hancock, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, passed away July 1, 2021, at the age of 72. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and Vietnam War, in which he received several medals and citations for his service. John was a hunter, fisherman, sports enthusiast and he enjoyed playing and later coaching softball. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed Alabama Football, Atlanta
Braves Baseball and NASCAR, as well as watching his grandchildren play sports when he could. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Cecila Dewight Hancock and brothers;Thomas Glenn Hancock and Cecil Don Hancock. He is survived by his devoted wife of 21 years; Sharon Hancock, loving sister;Deborah Sue Clark and brother James Lamar Hancock. Children:Brittany Blackburn (Craig), Charles Walter Hancock (Leslie),
Kimberly Barnette (Shawn), Shawanda Ledbetter and Lorrie Spivey (James). Grandchildren: Shawn Fredrick (Tiffany), Victoria Wyman, Brandon McCart (Lainne), Jay Wyman, Erik Hancock (Jasmine), Nicole Hancock, Skylar Hickman, Taylor Brooke
Helms, Noah Blackburn, Hayden Garrison, Brayden Helms and Brantley Spivey. Great Grandchildren; Tucker Harvison, Zachary Ezell, Parker Kate McCart, Zander Ezell, Avery Hancock and Emma Fredrick, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Services will be held Graveside on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 10:00
am., at Mobile Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Valor, located at 6100 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL 36619. In lieu of flowers the family requests you make a donation to the Veterans Charity of your choice.
