It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John "Glen" Porter, a remarkable and beloved figure in the lives of many. Glen, as he was affectionately known to his friends and family, was born on September 19, 1935, in Gainesville, FL, and concluded his journey on October 20, 2023, in Mobile, AL.

His educational journey paved the way for his professional achievements. Glen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University. He went on to serve in the Air Force rising to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant before being honorably discharged, marrying Terry Wilson and then pursuing a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama.

Glen joined International Paper Company and spent 34 years of his career and an extensive journey through various progressive roles including engineering, construction, project management, corporate purchasing, business services and logistics. His unwavering dedication and commitment involved postings in Alabama, Arkansas, New York and ultimately back to Mobile AL and an early retirement.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Glen was cherished for his wonderful sense of humor and engaging intellect. He had a unique ability to bring laughter to any gathering and spread joy to everyone in his presence. Glen was an outdoorsman at heart and found solace in hunting, fishing and golfing with extended family and close friends. However, his greatest pleasure was engaging in witty and constructive conversations that effortlessly flowed between friends and family.

Glen was an active member of the IP Quarter Century Society with a purpose to provide financial aid to its members or a deceased member's surviving spouse or dependents. He was also actively involved with Widowed Persons Services, a non-profit organization providing support to persons grieving the death of a spouse or loved one as they journey into a renew.

Glen was not only a dedicated professional but also a cherished husband, father, and an adored member of his extended family. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife and lifetime soul mate Terry Wilson Porter and by his siblings Joy Hart and Jerry Porter. Glen is survived by his sister Catherine Hannahan and his children Michael Porter (Manolya), Scott Porter (Becki), David Porter (Lawanda) and Leigh Porter Rollins (Stan) along with their families.

Glen's legacy extends to numerous grandchildren including Jordan Porter Spires, Jheryl Porter, Maison Porter, Morgan Porter, Madeline Porter, Seth Porter, Bruce Porter, Brooklyn Porter and Henry Rollins who will remember their beloved grandfather with affection and gratitude for the love and mentoring he bestowed.

Glen Porter's journey may have ended, but his memory and the impact he made on the world, both personally and professionally, will be celebrated and remembered for generations to come.
