John Richburg

John Sherman Richburg, 82, of Mobile, AL, passed away on the afternoon of December 21st surrounded by family.

John was born at home on January 3^rd, 1941, to Morgan Devenice Richburg and Azzie Mae Sunday Richburg in the bustling community of Fannie, AL.  John had a difficult childhood and overcame many obstacles.  He went on to graduate from Baker High School and later from Southwest State Technical College.  After graduation, he had a successful career in the Mechanical Design field.  After many years he retired from Kellogg Brown and Root.

John was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast.  He loved watching his Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday afternoons.  In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Mobile delta.  In his older years, he enjoyed spending time with his Grandchildren.

John Started his family on March 22^nd, 1963, when he married Sandra LaDell Blankenship.  John and Sandra raised three children, Elizabeth, LaBron, and Deanna.  In addition to raising their children, John and Sandra were also caretakers for their parents until their passing.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Morgan Devenice Richburg and Azzie Mae Sunday Richburg, Brother Frank Green, Sisters Thelma Deike, Helen (R.L.) Harris, Faye Frost, Hazel (Russell) McLellan.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years Sandra LaDell Blankenship Richburg, Daughter Elizabeth (David) Kirchharr, Son LaBron (Nora) Richburg, and Daughter Deanna (Virgil) Zetterlind, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, Sister-In-Laws Anne Green and Linda (Troy) Morris, Brother-in-Law George (Eva) Blakenship, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A special thanks goes out from the Richburg Family to Southern Cross Homecare of Alabama and Southern Care Hospice for their support and care over the last few months.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by funeral services in the Chapel beginning at 12:00 p.m.
