John Willie Shavers, 82, a longtime resident of Mobile, AL, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, December 9, 2018 after a long battle with Parkinson's. Our family lost a husband and partner, a father, a mentor, a supporter, a helper and friend. As Paul stated in Corinthians: "Run in such a way that you may obtain it." He has completed the race in a way that he will obtain a crown. Throughout his life he was very active in his church, community and the anchor of our family. He lived his life in a way that it was not about him, but about everyone else and he will be greatly missed. He was a dedicated member of Regency Church of Christ where he has served as an Elder for many years. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, after working over 40 years in the railroad industry. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Rosser Shavers and Sarah Mozell Wilborn Shavers; and his brother, James D. Shavers. His survivors include the love of his live and wife of 62 years, Janice R. Shavers; his son, Michael A. (Vicky L.) Shavers; daughter, Vickie L. Shavers (Charles) Shaw; two grandsons, John Michael (Leslie E.) Shavers and Joshua Matthew (Lauren M.) Shavers; two great-granddaughters, Anna Kelly Shavers and Ansley Kate Shavers; his sister, Jessie Juanita "Nita" S. Murray; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM from Regency Church of Christ. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until service time.
