John Leslie Stinson, Sr., a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, was born May 10, 1928 and passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lee Stinson and Ruby Ethel Howell Stinson; his grandson, Leland Stinson and son-in-law, Michael Lee. His survivors include the love of his life and wife of 71 years, Patsy Olive Tucker Stinson; four children, Wendy (Joe) McEarchern, John Leslie (Denise) Stinson, Jr., Albert (Susan) Stinson and Juli Lee. He took great pride and joy in his grandchildren, Dean, Jessica, Matthew, Tad, Amanda, Bryan, Austin and Shannon; his beautiful great-grandchildren; beloved nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. After graduating from Murphy High School in 1945, he joined the US Marines and was a World War II veteran. Following his service, he was employed for 38 years by the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. Known locally as a longtime deep sea fisherman and charter boat captain, he is fondly remembered as “Captain Les” by family and friends. Les was a licensed pilot, as well as a skilled mechanic. He loved animals and had many loyal pets over the years, including his current feline buddies. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Mobile. Graveside services, with US Marine military honors, will be held Monday, September 21, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Mobile Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Monday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM. If attending, please comply with social distancing guidelines. Facial masks are required.
