JOHN ANTHONY VITTOR
July 13, 1953 - May 3, 2022
On May 3, 2022 John Vittor went to be with his Lord and Savior after a brief illness. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn Vittor and Frank Vittor, Sr., and sisters Vera Gillis and
Anita Burt. He is survived by his sisters Linda Magoffin, Sandy Grant, Frances Lowe, Victoria Jeric,
and Virginia Vittor, and brothers Frank Vittor, Jr. and Barry Vittor, and many nieces, nephews,
and cousins. John was born in San Diego, California, the ninth of ten children, and attended school
in El Cajon, California until graduating from El Cajon Valley High School. He loved going to watch the
San Diego Chargers and San Diego State Aztecs football teams and enjoyed hiking in the foothills
around El Cajon Valley, looking for snakes and lizards. After moving to Mobile, Alabama in 1974,
John worked as a maintenance assistant at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and then as a lab technician
at Vittor & Associates. He took great pride in his work in the laboratory and handled sediment
samples from oceans all around the world. He became a devoted fan of the University of Alabama's
football program and never missed a game on TV; as he watched, he didn't hesitate to offer
"advice" to the Alabama coaches and next-door neighbors always knew when John was
Watching the Crimson Tide! John found real joy as a member of Orchard Baptist Church, where he
Accepted Christ and was baptized. He loved singing and was especially fond of traditional Christian
hymns recorded by Elvis Presley and was proud to sing in the Church choir, lifting a joyful sound to
the Lord! John loved his Family and his Church brothers and sisters and was loved by all who came
to know him he will be missed by all. Roll Tide, John!
