Joy Reid Perry, born in Meridian, MS on January 10, 1943 to Roy Joseph Reid, Sr. and Lorena Lister Reid, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, May 2, 2016. Joy passed away at home following a hard fought battle with cancer. Joy was preceded in death by her parents and her only brother, Roy Joseph "Joe" Reid, Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Braxton Perry; her daughter, Lori Perry Scott; her son, Joseph (Cheryl) Perry; and two grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart, Tyler and Katelyn Perry. Joy's family moved to Mobile shortly after her birth. She was a proud 1961 graduate of Murphy High School. After high school she was a civil service employee at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, AL. It was there that she met a cute young airman from North Carolina that became the love of her life! Braxton and Joy were married at Ann Street Baptist Church on February 1, 1963. Joy loved her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all her heart! She was a faithful member of Crawford Baptist Church. She loved her Sunday School Class and they loved her! She will be sadly missed and forever loved by her family and many friends - especially that radiant smile that was always on her face! Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Jay Robertson, will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 12:00 Noon until service time. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Mrs. Perry's name be made to Crawford Baptist Church Building Fund, 3000 Sun Valley Drive, Mobile, AL 36618.
