Karis Almy

June 29, 2009 — February 18, 2024

Karis Elizabeth Almy, 14, passed away on Sunday, February 18th. She was born on Monday, June 29th, 2009 at 10:16 p.m. to Katie and Trevor Almy in Mobile, Alabama. She weighed seven pounds, three ounces. In her early days, she loved to coo when Daddy would bicycle her legs. On Friday, December 4th, 2009, she was diagnosed with early infantile Krabbe disease. It snowed that night, flakes of grace in death.

Although her illness pillaged her of movement, swallowing, vision, and so much more, her parents clung to the promise of the resurrection of the body found in 2 Corinthians 1:9, which states, "Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead." And even as the disease continued to ravage her body, Karis still opened her eyes and searched for Daddy's timbre and stretched for Mom, who massaged her arms.

As a writer, Daddy shuddered to see Karis silent and lose language. As a storyteller, he struggled to give significance to her suffering. However, pain is prologue to joy. Karis' story is not over; it continues through the ending where her words will echo in the Word.

She is survived by her mother, Katie (Marc) Guerrieri of Mobile, Alabama; father, Trevor (Kerra) Almy of Ellenton, Florida; younger sister, Kales Almy; younger brother, Ander Almy; two younger half-sisters; a younger stepsister; maternal grandparents, David and Elizabeth Cook of Eight Mile, Alabama; paternal grandparents, Steve and Sandra Almy of Big Canoe, Georgia; aunt, Diane Cook of Eight Mile, Alabama; uncle, Travis (Jessie) Almy of Marietta, Georgia; aunt, Autumn (Josh) Slatky of Rome, Georgia; uncle, Logan (Natalie) Almy of Nesbit, Mississippi. She is also survived by several cousins.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 24th at 12:00 pm at Mobile Memorial Gardens with Logan Almy pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be afterwards in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
