Katherine Gelene Simpson Eckel, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, died Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the age of 69. Kathy retired from Mobile Infirmary Hospital as a Nurse Manager after many years of service. She was an avid Alabama football fan; loved animals, especially her feline companions; loved her home on Dog River and Mardi Gras. She was preceded in death by her father, Sig Simpson and her mother, Mary Alice Wiygul Hobson. Her survivors include her cousins, Steve (Jennifer) Boykin and Don (Susan) Wiygul; nephews, Ashton Boykin, Rob (Jenni) Rogers; nieces, Stacey Lowe, Courtney Johnson, Mallory Boykin and Susanne (Scott) Gregory; and special devoted friends, Wayne and Sandy Plaisance and Susan Gianelloni. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:00 Noon until service time. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
