McGee
February 7, 2015
Kenneth Wendell McGee, age 64, passed away at home on Saturday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Wendell and Anne Mount McGee, and his older brother Joe Patrick McGee.
His survivors include his wife, Julia Leach McGee (Julie), son K. Patrick McGee, daughter Vanessa McGee Reyner (Wayne), son Kyle Dustin McGee, brothers Edd Mount McGee and Phillip Dwight McGee (Patricia), granddaughter Virginia Anne Reyner, mother-in-law Marion Smith Leach, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in- laws.
Ken was a journeyman electrician and retired from the Mobile County Commission at age 60. He also worked for the City of Mobile and many well-known electrical contractors and industries. His life's work helped to build and maintain businesses, homes, public buildings, and streetscapes all over South Alabama, a lasting testament to his hard work and skill. He graduated from Alba High School where he played football, and attended the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of South Alabama.
Ken deeply loved his family and his good friends. He was a rugged man but was a deep thinker with many interests. Ken's high school years were spent living on Dauphin Island, and as a child he also spent holidays visiting his grandparents in Lawley, AL on the family farm. These two experiences left him with a lasting love of nature and fishing. Over the years he was an avid reader of the classics, wrote poetry, loved history, and was a civil war buff; his travels centered on the natural world and taking out his fishing boat; he was a great seafood cook, and always kept a garden for fresh produce, was an avid Alabama fan, and had an impressive memory for facts and events.
Services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile on Thursday, February 12, 2015 with visitation from noon until 2:00 PM. Family only graveside services will be officiated by his cousin, Rev. John Mount, with hymns provided by his nephew Collin Phillips. Interment will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
