Lamont Hinman Dees

Lamont Hinman Dees, age 72, and resident of Mobile, Alabama, was born on October 22nd, 1952, and passed away peacefully in his home overlooking Dog River on March 18th, 2025. He met the love of his life in October 1973. Lamont continued the legacy of his mother and father's business, Dees Paper Company founded in 1962. He was respected and loved by his employees because of his quiet strength and leadership. He was always quick with a pun or dad joke, even if his daughter was the only one to get it. He was known as a thoughtful gentle giant and had such a tender heart. He loved all animals and rescued many over the years. He discovered a lifelong love of Dog River playing as a child that continued to give him a childlike sense of joy throughout his life. An avid outdoorsman "Monty" found his peace working in his yard, fishing for speckled trout, feeding his birds, riding his tractor, tinkering in his workshop, cruising Dog River on his party barge, and taking in a sunset on the point. Monty never wavered in his fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a brutal disease. Monty was a man of few words, but he chose those words carefully.

Monty is survived by his loving wife Susan Chadick Dees, his beloved daughter Lauren Dees Grigsby (Benjamin Grigsby), sister Plia Dees Preston , brother-in-law Eugene Lee Chadick Jr (Julie), cousin Andrew Dees (who was like a brother), his friend and right hand man Stanley "Bobby" Duncan, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and his Dees Paper Company family.

He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Lamont Dees, mother Marsyl Sayre Dees, and his grandmother Katherine "Ta Ta" Sayre.

Per Monty's wishes the family will have private services to be held at later date.
