LaVerne Thompson Skinner, 76, of Mobile, AL passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 27, 2015. She was born February 17, 1939 to the late Arthur Orea Thompson and Sallye Mozelle Howell Thompson of St. Joseph, LA. LaVerne was a retired school teacher of 30 plus years in Louisiana and Texas. She was known as "Momo" to her family and friends. She loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was a fixture at their extracurricular activities rarely, if ever, missing any. She was given a second chance at life 13 years ago and took it by storm. She told some this was the happiest she had ever been. LaVerne was a caring, loving and faithful servant who lived a life of service to her family and church and, most importantly, to her Savior and Lord. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her. LaVerne was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph Thompson and Ed Thompson and grandson, Lucas Horton. She is survived by her husband, Robert Manuel Skinner; her sister, Carol Sue Lovell; her daughter, Alice Deanna Horton; her son, Mark Andrew (Gloria) Poche'; grandchildren, Randall (Cindy) Russ, Robert "Bubba" (Trish) Russ, Jasmine (John) White and Ryan (Kayla) Horton, Drew Poche', Christian Poche' and Stephen Poche'; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 2:00 PM at City Church of Mobile, 3750 Michael Boulevard, Mobile, AL. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
