Lee Purvis, (affectionately known as Pete and Aunt Pete) age 89, passed away on Sunday, at Jackson Medical Center, Jackson, Alabama. She was born to John and Nancy Harper Purvis in West Bend, Alabama. After high school, she went to Mobile, Alabama and called it home. In her younger years she loved working in drug stores in downtown Mobile where one of her favorite jobs was working behind the cosmetic counter. She later went to Huffstetler Business College. She enjoyed a successful career working for Mobile Gas Company for over 30 years. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering at the American Red Cross and the Mobile Infirmary. She was preceded in death by her sister, Viola Pugh; brothers, Woodrow Purvis, Treva Purvis and John Purvis; niece, Patricia Lowe Swann, and nephew, Ronnie Harrell. Preceding her in death was the "love of her life", William "Bill" Willenzik. She is survived by her sisters, Eva Lowe of Fairhope, Alabama, Dot Harrell, Retha Harrell, both of Grove Hill, Alabama; nieces and nephews, Jeanie Presnall, Dianne Boyington, Nancy Wolfe, Roger Pugh, Bill Purvis, Johnny Purvis, Larry Harrell, Michael Purvis, Jimmy Lowe, Keith Harrell; other relatives and friends. Thanks to her, the family was enriched with many photographs that she took at family gatherings and other events. She loved her siblings and their families. Her smile and the gift of laughter inspired those that met her. She felt that the right to vote was a great gift and, as an American citizen, she exercised that right. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross, Mobile Bay Area Food Bank, Alabama Boys//Girls Ranch, American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Jackson Healthcare Facility in Jackson, Alabama for the care there loved one received for the last twenty three months. Services were held Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 2:30 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, interment followed. Pallbearers were Roger Pugh, Keith Harrell, Johnny Purvis, Larry Harrell, Jimmy Lowe and Justin Morris. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilememorialfunerals.com.
