Lena A. Ida Sanders Visser, age 81, of Mobile, Alabama USA passed from this life to be with her Lord on April 21, 2017 at 5:15 AM after struggling with vascular dementia. She was born May 5, 1935 in Den Haag, Netherlands. While working at a hospital, she met her future husband who worked at the Dutch Air Force Base next door to the hospital. She married Apolonus T. Visser July 30, 1956 in Den Haag, Netherlands. Their sense of adventure started early after they were married. After the birth of the first son, Ronald, they immigrated to Montreal, Canada in May 1959. Two more sons, Michael and Douglas John, were born in Canada and then they immigrated to Detroit, Michigan USA in 1968. L.A. Ida Visser was a stay at home mother. After her husband's working career they retired to Mobile, Alabama in 1993. Among her many accomplishments, she taught herself to speak, read and write English. She loved to sing, travel, camp, bake, knit and crochet. She made more than 1500 baby blankets for various women's crisis pregnancy centers. L.A. Ida Visser was preceded in death by Apolonus T. Visser and is survived by her sons, Ronald (Brenda) Visser, Michael (Sherry) Visser & Douglas John (Jane) Visser; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 10:30 AM until service time. Entombment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
