Leonard Owen

November 11, 1929 — June 7, 2021

Leonard Watson Owen, age 91, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Leonard was born on Veterans Day, November 11, 1929. You could say he was literally a veteran from birth. On July 24, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, then joined the United States Navy. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a true patriot. After the Navy, he worked at several electrical companies, before opening his own car wash equipment maintenance company. His work ethic and code of conduct were exemplary. The care he showed for those who lost loved ones showed his unbounding love for his friends.
He was a dedicated family man. Being married to his sweetheart for 63 years, they faced the waves of life together. He was dedicated and committed to his family with a total of four children, six grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. Weather he was called Dad, Poppa, Bop or Uncle Leonard, he was there to give answers, guidance, and love. We all thought he would live forever... He was 91 and completed his last work contract the week before his death.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean Kitchens Owen; son, Kenneth Wayne Owen; parents, Charles William, Sr. and Esther Margaret White Owen; and siblings, Timothy Samuel Owen, Charles Robert Owen, Joyce Owen Braswell, and Lois Owen Falls.
He was survived by his children, Garry Len Owen, Terry Owen Smith, and Ronald Daniel Owen; siblings, David Brice Owen Sr., Kay Owen Stratton, and Gwendolyn Alice Owen; grandchildren, Heather (David) Thomas, Taylor Owen, Brian (Morgan) Coyle, Christy Coyle, Tiffany (Greg) Bass, and Krissy (Carlos) Socorro; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Amber, and Shawn Thomas, Justin and Cierra Owen, Tylen, Beckham, Maveryk, and Benjamin Coyle, Jackson, Madelyn, and Charlie Socorro, Emma and Cooper Bass; and great-great-grandchildren, Emma and Carter Thomas.
