Levi Hopkins, Jr., a native of Mt. Vernon, AL and longtime resident of Theodore, AL, died September 24, 2017 at the age of 76. Levi was a retired Sargent of the Mobile County Sheriff's Dept.; a charter member of New Hope United Methodist Church where he served as a lay speaker and member of numerous church committees and a former employee of the Mobile Greyhound Park. He was a US Navy Veteran; Post Commander of American Legion Post 250; District Commander of District 33 of the American Legion and a lifetime member of VFW Post 49. He was always available to assist his fellow veterans with their benefits paperwork. He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi Hopkins, Sr. and Cornelia Ann Byrd Hopkins; his brother, Carl Hopkins; and his sister, Obra Pharr. His survivors include his wife of 38 years, Susan Cain Hopkins; two sons, Scott (Tonya) Hopkins and Ryan Hopkins; two brothers, Charlie (Lois) Hopkins and Paul (Joan) Hopkins; two sisters, Ollie Taylor and Addie Weaver; three grandchildren, Caleb, Connor and Phylise Hopkins; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening, September 27, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
