Loraine Phillips Blackmon passed away peacefully at her home early Monday morning at the age of 94. She was a native of Colquitt, GA, and graduated from Miller County High School in 1945.
Mrs. Blackmon is survived by her three daughters: Carolyn Kimes of Mobile, AL, Pamela Rather of Chickasaw, AL; and Debra Bosarge (Kenny) of Grand Bay, AL; sister JoAn Standridge (Jarrell) of Winder, GA; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Blackmon was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Howard C. Blackmon, her parents Dewey and Ella Phillips, her sister, Janie Sheffield; and her brother Gene Phillips.
Mrs. Blackmon worked as a stenographer for the Civil Service, retiring in June 1967. She enjoyed golfing and bowled for over 50 years. She also enjoyed traveling, touring extensively in Europe while her husband was stationed overseas and visiting 42 of the 50 states. She was a member of Government Street Baptist Church.
Funeral services are planned for Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m., and the service will begin in the chapel at 12:00 with Dr. Charles Brown officiating. Pallbearers are grandsons Jeff Pierce, Shane Pierce, Benjamin Rather and Michael Rather, and grandsons-in-law Jeff Lambert and Jonathon Sema. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons-in-law Mike Cunningham, Kevin Draughon and Rob Patti.
