Lorene Whiddon

Lorene C. Whiddon, a longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at home. Born in Opp, AL 91 years ago, Lorene grew up on the family's farm where she loved collecting eggs, picking blueberries and attending school. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School Class for over 20 years at Chickasaw First Baptist Church where she had been a member since 1952 and was always active in Church functions, as was her husband, Alvin, who was a Deacon in the Church and a Sunday School Teacher. Lorene worked at International Paper Company and then as an executive secretary at Alabama State Docks for over 36 years until her retirement in 1997. During her career, she received several professional service and organization awards and looked forward to family getaways to the bay. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Alvin; her parents and siblings. Lorene is survived by her sons, Holmes (Connie) Whiddon and Harold Dwight Whiddon; granddaughter, Ashleigh Gaunt; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Her family is truly grateful to Gloria Sanchez and Pam Chaney who provided devoted, patient and loving care each day over the last few years. The family is planning a private funeral service.
