Mack Caraway
1938-2018
Mack Caraway never had a bad day. Those who knew him, and even those who didn't (he loved nothing more than to strike up a conversation with strangers), were always greeted with a boisterous laugh, a pat on the back, a joke, or an encouraging word. Mack loved the Lord, his family, his dear friends, and his church, Forest Hill Church of God. This past year, he and his beloved wife, Llawana, marked a major milestone - 50 years of marriage. They met at Creole Assembly in 1966, where they were married on February 16, 1968. Recently, when recounting their meeting to his daughter, he said: "I just fell in love with her. And, I couldn't wait to get to church to see her." On weekends, they would scoot around in his ‘65 Chevy Impala, and would sing with a church trio, traveling to Mississippi and Florida, to sing at little country churches. The son of Richard and Allie Caraway, one of his fondest memories was growing up on a farm in Atmore, Alabama, with his treasured brothers, Earl, Dave, Pete, and Bill and two sisters, Dorothy and Doris. Mack served seven years in the Army and worked at the City of Mobile for 30 years until he retired. Always a hard worker and a "people" person, Mack then joined Enterprise, where he looked forward to driving cars, drinking coffee and joking with his work buddies. He remained positive, even when Stage IV Cancer would run its cruel and ugly course. He never complained and would always remind you, "God is in control, and everything is going to be alright." During the last few months, Mack would vow to walk again, and his family believes that he's now running on streets of gold. Mack, who had recently celebrated his 80th birthday, is survived by his wife, Llawana; his daughter, Angela Caraway-Carlton; son-in-law, David Carlton; and siblings, Pete, Doris and Dorothy. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, December 24, 2018 at 12:00 Noon from Forest Hill Church of God with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Allentown Cemetery in Semmes, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the senior citizens class that Mack attended at Forest Hill Church of God. Condolences may be offered at www.mobilefuneralservice.com. Arrangements by Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
