Margaret Gross

Margaret Ruth Gross 77 passed away peacefully on Monday June 16, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born on August 7, 1936 in Mobile, AL to Leo Cullen Jones Sr and Marion Lundy Jones. She attended Murphy High School, graduating in 1953. After working as a telephone switchboard operator at Brookley Field, she met and married her husband of 54 years Dr. W David Gross Sr in 1958. She helped David open Gross Animal Clinic in 1960, and was an integral part of the practice until it closed in 2010. Peggy loved the Lord and was an active member of the Community of Christ Church. She loved playing Tennis, and played for many years until her knees gave out. She also enjoyed painting and crafts, and had a brief career creating and selling driftwood arrangements. She deheaded and froze an immeasurable number of shrimp, caught by her husband and sons. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family and friends, and made seafood gumbo that would bring tears to your eyes. She loved animals and adored her two Westies Gretchen and April. She was tough as Supermans kneecap, but was loving, gracious, and compassionate, and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her two brothers Leo Jr Michelle and Douglas Doris Jones, two sons David Jr Monica and Drew Gross, stepdaughter Shannon Tom Rutledge, and three grandchildren Trey, Finch, and Victoria Gross. Visitation is from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 19 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Memorial service in chapel and graveside committal will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
